Arrival of autumn brings winds of change

It's here. It crept up on us while we were too busy to notice. Go ahead. Step outside and look around. I dare you. Have you noticed the leaves quietly shifting from the luscious green we have grown to love these last few months to shades of red, brown, and yellow? Have you felt the crisp, chilled air as you walk to your morning class, or are you aware the sun says goodbye to us two hours earlier. Yes, autumn, it's here.
A few weeks ago, the familiar sounds, sights and feelings of summer said so-long and autumn came to take over. Although many of us will miss the flip-flop tans and the long days soaking in the sun on the beach, autumn has come bearing gifts.
For all you die-hard football fans out there, Monday nights, which used to be spent outside, relaxing on the patio, have turned into a football frenzy. Monday nights are now spent with the boys, eating take-out pizza, drinking beer and watching the big game on a 72-inch flat screen television to make sure not one touchdown is missed.
For others, autumn brings those ripe, red apples we use to make our favorite sweet treats that can only truly be enjoyed during this time of year. You may go home to enjoy your mom's homemade apple pie or simply just curl up on the couch to indulge in a caramel apple.
Perhaps what most people look forward to during the autumn months are the celebrations which definitely shouldn't be forgotten. If you are one who likes to dress up in costume and run around town collecting candy in exchange for jokes, then Halloween is for you.
In the end, although saddened by summer's end, we have things to look forward to in the coming months. We may be forced to put those shorts and sandals away until next year, and the fireflies may be a tad out of reach, but I suggest you take time to appreciate everything autumn has to offer.
