Wes Brooks, director of residential life, said since more students live on campus, more situations could happen. He said he thinks the residential staff is just doing their job.
The residential staff is made up of resident assistants, graduate assistants, hall directors and Brooks.
"The residential staff is more visible and doing a better job enforcing policies," Brooks said.
Even though five people are living in each Suite, Brooks said this is not impacting the number of write-ups issued and this isn't leading to behavioral problems.
This year more resident assistants returned than in the past. This means RAs are more experienced and are more comfortable going into a situation.
Carol Albatche, nursing junior and RA, said, "Having more experience helps you get the feel of what to look for and do."
Brooks said he wants to points out to students the staff isn't out to get anyone. They are just makings sure the policies are being followed.
Caleb Thompson, business senior and RA, said, "The reason why write-ups are up is because RAs are doing their job more thoroughly."
Not one residence hall has been given out more write-ups than the other. The violations have been evenly distributed.
Brooks couldn't comment on what types of write-ups are on the rise due to confidentiality.
"When RAs are on their rounds at night, they look for things out of the ordinary," Thompson said. "When people are being loud during quiet hours it usually tips them off something is up."
In the case of an alcohol or fighting violation, no warnings are given. The only time a warning is given is when students violate the noise policy for the first time or events leading up to the breaking of a violation.
Quiet hours are Sunday through Thursday 11:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. and Friday and Saturday 2:00 a.m. to 11 a.m., but a 24-hour courtesy rule is in effect which means any student may be warned at any time the noise level is too high.
