All are welcomed to the Midnight Brunch, 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 4, in the Knudsen Dining Hall, as an alternative choice to drinking Homecoming night.

While eating, students can watch episodes of the sitcom, the Office, on a big screen TV. All students are welcome to attend, not just those who decide to attend the dance.

The Campus Ministry Board, who is sponsoring this event, is made up of Student Ministries, Campus Crusade for Christ and Campus Fellowship.

Pastor Jack Mithelman said these organizations began discussing homecoming last spring. When they came back together for the first time in September, they began working with Student Activities Council (SAC) in order to assist them in making the Homecoming Dance a safe, fun activity for everyone.

"Thanks to Viking Council and SAC funds, this free event will provide students with a good, hot meal to bring the evening to a close," Mithelman said.

Mithelman said the event will be chaperoned by selected faculty, staff and campus security will be present.

Ryan Schmitt, member of student ministries, said the organizations thought this meal would be a good way for them to extend their Christian hospitality to fellow students during the homecoming festivities.

"We just want everyone to have a fun time at all the various homecoming events," Schmitt said, "and this would be a good event for people to come to and unwind after all the homecoming activities."

Jeff Rost, Viking council president, said concerns were raised by students, staff and faculty about the prevalence of alcohol around the time of Homecoming.

Rost said, "We're providing an alternative in hopes of getting students to participate in something that is apart from drinking."

Viking Council and SAC will pay for the breakfast for the Grand View students who decide to attend.

"I really hope students participate in the breakfast," Rost said, "as it is a free event for them, and this is part of their Student Activity fee working for them."

Rost said the council decided to co-sponsor it because it is an activity that every student can get involved with, and can enjoy a nice meal after a night of fun.

"We hope this will be a fun event for everyone," Rost said.
